Good v’s evil, a battle that takes
place in all of us. Every morning when we wake, we have to decide will we
thrive? Or take a dive? Our
thoughts, our internal dialogue can have a massive impact on how we start and
finish each new day. It has been said that 70% of our thoughts are negative. If
left unchecked can lead to depression and self-destructive behaviour like addictions
derailing us from what we say we want most in life.
To illustrate this point allow me to
share with you a classic Cherokee Indian story.
One evening, an elderly Cherokee brave told his
grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, “my son, the
battle is between two ‘wolves’ inside us all. One is evil. It is anger, envy,
jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment,
inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
The other is good. It is joy, peace love, hope
serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth,
compassion, and faith.”
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then
asked his grandfather, “which wolf wins?”
The old Cherokee simply replied, “the one that you
feed.”
Reflect
for a moment on that last line, “the one that you
feed.” The
next time you have a negative thought, catch it and ask yourself, “What is this
thought doing for me?” Answer, if it’s negative it’s disempowering you and if
it’s positive it’s empowering you. You can create greater peace, confidence and
a more positive outlook by learning how to manage your thoughts. After all,
this battle can be won because you have the power of choice!
