When
people talk about you is the conversation based around your job, career,
business or the contribution you make to family, friends and the wider community?
Knowing what you want your legacy to be will allow you to make better use of
your time, skill, talents and abilities. It will influence your day-to-day
decisions in a positive way. Gaining clarity on what you want your legacy to be
can give your life meaning and purpose.
When we
move away from a monetary legacy and explore the alternate avenues, we begin to
realise that whether we like it or not when we're called to meet our maker we all will
leave a legacy of some description. The question is, will we be happy with what
we are remembered by and if not, are we prepared to do the necessary work to create
the legacy we say we desire.
Some things to consider:
- What do you want your life to stand for?
- How do you want to be remembered by your family and friends?
- What kind of an impact do you want to have on your local and wider community?
- What contributions do you want to make to your field?
- What lessons would you like to pass on to future generations?
One of the greatest legacies that you can pass onto your children and grandchildren is not money or other material things but rather a legacy of character and faith. Therefore think about your legacy because you are living/writing it every day. And always remember, to varying degrees like using a pencil if you make a mistake you can rub it out and start again.
