Time can be measured and valued in many ways, today we take a look from a young boy’s perspective. A father and son were having a conversation. “Daddy, can I ask you a question?” “Sure, you can.” “How much do you make an hour?” The father in his head felt that it was none of his son’s business but went ahead and answered “£10 p/h.” “Oh.” Responded the son with his head down. “Can I borrow £5?”
The father was a little displeased
thinking that the only reason his son wanted the money was to spend it on a
childish whim so he marched him to bed to think about his behaviour. The young boy quietly went to his room and shut the
door feeling a little deflated. The father after examining his actions began to
think that maybe there was something his son really wanted to buy as it wasn’t
that often that he asked for money.
Having had time to reflect the father
went to his son’s room to apologise for taking his aggravation out on his son
and handed him £5. On receiving the £5 the boy sat up animated and thanked his
dad. Then proceeded to reach under his pillow where he pulled out some pound
coins. Seeing that the boy already had some money the father became annoyed but
checked himself before reacting.
The young boy slowly counted out his
money, and then looked up at his father smiling from ear to ear. “Why do you
want more money if you already have some?" Asked the father. “Because I
didn't have enough, but I do now.” Responded his son. “Now that I have £10 can
I buy an hour of your time so we can have dinner together.”
His father was crushed. He put his arms around his
son and begged for his forgiveness. It's a poignant reminder to us all, as to
how we spend those precious 24 hours in a day. Let us all take the opportunity
to embrace the time we have and spend it wisely with those we say we love and
care about.
