Know Who You Are - Know Yourself

A wise man once said, “To know yourself is the beginning of wisdom.” A quote often attributed to Socrates. Put another way "Knowing who you are is the greatest wisdom a human being can possess. Know your goals, what you love, your morals, your needs, your standards, what you will not tolerate and what you are willing to die for. It defines who you are." Beyoncé

So, what does it mean to know yourself?

When you know who you are, you eliminate the guesswork out of life. It takes away the need for shortcuts, hoping, wishing and longing. When you know who you are you become focused. You know that there is always room for self-improvement, which opens the door for growth which leads to opportunity, which leads to you realising and fulfilling your true potential.

When you know who you are, you become comfortable from the inside out. You are able to pick sense out of the nonsense. When you know yourself, you know your strengths, you embrace your weaknesses and you’re more able to navigate the challenges of life and all that it presents. When you know who you are, you understand more, embrace more, are able to be at peace more, reducing conflict and attracting harmony.

Knowing who you are and knowing yourself brings a host of benefits.

Better decision making - Based on understanding your values, boundaries and deal-breakers.

Self-control - Understanding what works for you, what motivates you thereby eliminating the seduction of bad habits.

Less inner conflict - When your outside actions are in accordance with your inside feelings and values, you will experience less inner conflict.

Happiness - When you know who you are your ability to be happy increases. You’re able to express your desires which makes it more likely that you get what you truly want.

When you know who you are, you understand your SHAPE.

Spiritual Gifts - Not given for your own benefit but for the benefit of others.

Heart - Your heart reveals the real you, who you truly are, not who others think you are or what circumstances force you to be.

Abilities - Each and every one of us has been blessed with dozens of untapped abilities, the secret is to unleash and utilise them.

Personality - Know yours and understand that you’re unique with a specific plan that only you can fulfil.

Experience - Employing your experiences to help yourself and others.

Aldous Huxley said, “Experience is not what happens to you. It is what you do with what happens to you”. What will you do with what you’ve been through? Don’t waste your pain; use it to help others.
