Perception v's Reality

With the way that the mainstream media has been distorting information presented to us, it’s no wonder many are finding it hard to make sense out of the nonsense. Let’s take the information used around the coronavirus. Wear masks don’t wear masks, use ventilators don’t use ventilators, go outside don’t go outside the list goes on.

Viewed from another perspective Black lives matter v’s all lives matter. There are times that in order to get clarity an analogy is in order. I’m sure most of you will be familiar with the board game monopoly. When setting up each player receives £1500.00 and has access to purchase property and the like.

Now imagine as a black man playing monopoly where you’re allowed to play but you don’t get to keep your £1500.00. Which means you don’t get to own anything. When you pass go, your £200.00 is withheld from you. I would conclude that the odds are heavily stacked against you. Now imagine that this is your portion for 400 hundred years.

Would it be fair to say that those who’ve been playing the game and enjoying the benefits might have a slight advantage over you? Is it possible that those who have been allowed to play with all the benefits might have accumulated generational wealth at your expense? Does it still continue today?

Fast forward to 2018 and the Windrush scandal. A time when many answered the call to rebuild Great Britain. Many of those caught up answered the call and worked 30, 40, 50 years paying into the British economy participating on the monopoly board game and doing well out of it. However, this did not sit well with some and just like that their lives were turned upside down. Not because they were lazy, not because they were a burden to the British taxpayer. Because they were black.

The Windrush inquiry report found that the Home Office showed “Ignorance and thoughtlessness on the issue of race.” And as in the Macpherson inquiry which looked into the murder of Stephen Lawrence found once again evidence of institutional racism.

So, to the question do Black Lives Matter? My conclusion is a resounding YES. Time for equality, Time for change, Time for a level playing field.
