How Bad Do You
Want It?
How bad do you want it? When
you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe, then you’ll be successful.
There was a young man who wanted to
make a lot of money and be successful. Rather than keeping this to himself he decided
to share his thoughts with his mentor. His mentor in response requested him to
meet him at the beach the following day at 6 am. The young man eager to impress
rocks up suited and booted at 6 am. His mentor looks him dead in the eyes and
says: “How bad do you want to be successful”? His response: “Real Bad.”
The mentor takes him by the hand and
walks him into the sea. Now, remember this young man is suited and booted and
thinking to himself that the mentor has lost the plot. Knee high, waist high,
chest high, neck high, they keep walking. The young man is of the mindset that
the mentor is definitely crazy. He says to himself: “I came out here because I
want to make money not become a lifeguard.”
It’s at
this point that the mentor holds him under the water. The young man in a panic
begins to fight to come up for air. Just before he gets to the point of passing
out his mentor lifts him out of the water and says: I’ve got a question for you:
“What was the one thing on your mind when you were struggling under the water?”
“I wanted to breathe” replied the young man. “When you want to succeed as bad as you want to
breathe, then you’ll be successful.” Said the mentor.
I’m here today to remind
you that the number one reason why the majority are not successful is that they
don’t want it bad enough. When you speak to successful people and hear their
back story, you’ll find out that there were major obstacles that they had to
overcome, sacrifices they had to make. However, their desire, belief and
expectation of themselves shone through their behaviour which said “I Will Succeed.”
